The death of a 3-year-old Amherst girl has been ruled a homicide by the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said today.

Mayouna Smith, of Allenhurst Road, was killed from blunt force trauma to her abdominal region, according to police.

The little girl also had been physically and sexually abused prior to the fatal injuries she suffered last Saturday, Amherst police have said.

Police are continuing their investigation and no arrests have been made.

Police were called to the Allenhurst apartment at 9 a.m. Saturday for the report of a child not breathing and unresponsive.

Mayouna was home at the time with her mother, the mother’s boyfriend and another child, police said.

Emergency crews performed first aid on Mayouna, who was transferred to Erie County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
