Ko-Ed Candies, a 66-year-old candy store on Abbott Road, is up for sale.

Owners Sandy and Gary Whitt said it is simply “time to pass the torch” and are looking for someone to take over the company by May, which is typically the end of its usual eight-month season.

The business, which includes the store’s popular website, is selling for $495,000. Its 3,000-square-foot retail store at 285 Abbott Road is selling for an additional $120,000. The couple is also selling their home next door at 281 Abbott Road for an additional $90,000.

Ko-Ed Candies, which has been featured on National Public Radio, is known for its sponge candy, which accounts for about 60 percent of its sales. The store claims to have $500,000 in candy sales through its retail store.

Gary Whitt had worked at Ko-Ed Candies for his father since childhood and eventually bought the business from his dad in 1996.
