A new center at SUNY Buffalo State has been created to oversee the college’s community health efforts. The Institute for Community Health Promotion will integrate work done in the Center for Health and Social Research, which researches and promotes changes in unhealthy behaviors, and the Center for the Development of Human Services, a social service program.

Professor William F. Wieczorek, director of the Center for Health and Social Research since 1997, has been appointed director of the new institute.

In 2012-13, the two existing centers brought in more than $17 million for their programs, according to Buffalo State. By helping the centers work more closely with Buffalo State faculty and academic programs, the institute plans to increase that funding and offer more service-learning options to its students.
