Federal grant will allow SWAT team to upgrade

NORTH TONAWANDA – The City of North Tonawanda, in partnership with the City of Tonawanda, has been awarded $99,995 in federal funding from the Tactical Team Grant Program, which is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The grant was sought by North Tonawanda/Tonawanda’s joint SWAT team and will be used to obtain equipment for the team.

North Tonawanda Police Chief William Hall said Lt. Lee C. Bolsover and Officer Nicholas J. Iwanicki, both members of the SWAT team, applied for the grant in an effort to supply the team with equipment they may not have been able to afford through the budgetary process. Hall said much of the grant will be used to upgrade tactical vests worn by team members.

City of Tonawanda Police Chief William Strassburg stated: “This grant allows the T-NT SWAT team to purchase state of the art equipment to help ensure both the safety of our citizens and the SWAT team members.”
