CAMBRIA -– A woman who smashed a roadside business sign before driving her car into a guardrail early Saturday reportedly told police that she had taken sleeping pills and consumed alcohol in the hours before driving.

Claudia J. Herbold, 61, of Lower Mountain Road, Sanborn, was arrested at the scene of the Ridge Road accident at 2:15 a.m. A witness told sheriff’s deputies that Herbold’s 2013 Ford had been swerving all over the road before she hit the business sign and drove off again, on the wrong side of the roadway.

A Breathalyzer test showed no evidence of alcohol on Herbold’s breath, deputies said, so she was charged with driving while impaired by drugs, in addition to failure to keep right, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and moving from a lane unsafely.
