Caledonia man charged with year-long thefts from cars

BATAVIA – An 18-year-old Caledonia man was jailed Friday on a variety of felony charges for allegedly staging a year-long string of thefts from cars in the Village of Oakfield, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Dalton A. Long, was charged with six counts of misdemeanor criminal possession of stolen property and single felony counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, fourth-degee criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree identify theft and petit larceny.

The arrest followed an investigation into car burglaries dating back to last January by Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Thompson, Bradley Mazur and Youth Officer Timothy Wescott.

After his arraignment in Oakfield Town Court, Long was remanded to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail. He faces further court proceedings Feb. 3.

Sheriff’s Office officials said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are likely.
