Launch New York, a nonprofit organization which aims to promote startup activity in upstate New York, has named Al Culliton its interim chief executive officer, according to a source familiar with the appointment.
Culliton recently retired from the Erie County Industrial Development Agency. He had led the ECIDA since 2006, serving as the agency’s chief operating officer and acting CEO. He was also involved in establishing Launch New York.
Culliton fills a leadership void created by the departure of John J. Seman, Launch New York’s first-ever CEO. Seman’s contract was not renewed, and he left at the end of December, after 15 months on the job. Launch New York was created in 2012, modeled on Cleveland’s JumpStart program.
