Failure to use headlights leads to arrest of Salamanca motorist

LITTLE VALLEY – A 29-year-old motorist was arrested on several felony charges after Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputies investigated a report of a pickup truck being driven without its headlights on in the Town of Allegany.

Deputies were dispatched at about 2 a.m. Tuesday to Buffalo Road, where the pickup had pulled over after it was seen driving along Smith Hollow Road.

The vehicle had substantial front end damage and a broken windshield, and deputies said they found that a road sign had been knocked over and a tree damaged on Smith Hollow Road.

John J. Hudson Jr. of Salamanca, who was driving the pickup, was charged with felony counts of driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood-alcohol content of .18 or more and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, deputies said. He also was charged with driving a vehicle without an interlock device and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, as well as vehicle and traffic law violations.

Following arraignment in Hinsdale Town Court, Hudson was sent to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 bail pending a future appearance in Allegany Town Court.
