Two firefighters injured in Allentown blaze

Two firefighters were taken to a hospital with injuries suffered fighting a blaze Tuesday evening in a two-story mixed-use apartment and commercial building in Buffalo’s Allentown neighborhood. Their identities and the extent of their injuries were not immediately reported.

Division Chief Mike Biasillo of the Buffalo Fire Department estimated damage at $50,000 to the building at 500 Franklin St., just north of Allen Street, and $20,000 to the contents. The cause of the fire, which started in a second-floor bedroom and spread to a kitchen, is under investigation. Extra equipment was dispatched because of the severe wind and cold.
