Just before 4 p.m. today North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt issued a driving ban throughout the city which will remain in effect until 9 p.m.

In addition, the Common Council meeting, which had been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. was cancelled.

Niagara County, especially along Lake Ontario, has remain mostly unscathed, however the National Weather Service issued a statement at 3:35 p.m. which extended the weather alert to Niagara and Orleans County.

A lake effect snow advisory will be in effect in that area until 1 a.m. Wednesday, with up to 3 to 5 inches predicted, with blowing winds and dangerously cold wind chills. Wind chill warnings remain in effect in that area until 4 a.m. with southwest winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour and wind chill values at 20 below.
