The University at Buffalo wrestling team (1-6, 0-3 Mid-American Conference) was able to put together back-to-back wins at 184 and 197 pounds but lost to Northern Iowa (4-0, 2-0 MAC), 28-6, on Saturday at Alumni Arena.

Tony Lock of the Bulls impressed with a 9-4 victory over Kyle Lux of Northern Iowa, compiling 2:40 of riding time. Lock started the match with a quick takedown.

The Bulls’ Angelo Malvestuto (Niagara-Wheatfield) followed that with a 7-4 decision over Basil Minto, despite losing a riding time point. However, that was offset by three penalty points he was awarded and more points off a nice reversal. It was Malvestuto’s 11th victory of the season.

Next Sunday, the Bulls will be wrestling at the University of Pittsburgh duals.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Senior guard Mark Coppola (Williamsville South) of Daemen College had five assists in Saturday’s 79-75 triumph over St. Thomas Aquinas, tying the school’s single-season assist record of 203. He has 469 career assists, second on Daemen’s all-time list to the 503 posted by Rob Robinson (Emerson).

MEN’S HOCKEY: Buffalo State’s rally against national No. 2 Adrian (12-0-1) came up a goal short as the Bengals (5-7-3) dropped a 4-3 decision in a non-conference game at the Buffalo State Ice Arena. Brett Hope, Mike Zanella and Jake Rosen (Williamsville North) scored for Buffalo State, while Nick Berst (Lancaster) had two assists.
