Business People / Hire, promotions and honors

KATZ Americas promoted Tammy Gorzka to president. Gorzka previously was vice president sales and marketing for the Sanborn-headquartered company. A former Niagara Falls, New York resident, she will split time between the company’s Buffalo, Tennessee and Germany offices.

WGRZ-TV president and general manager Jim Toellner was named Broadcasting & Cable Magazine’s GM of the Year in markets 51-100. Toellner previously worked in sales for the Buffalo News, WIVB and WKBW before taking on the position of general manager at WGRZ in 2003. A North Tonawanda native, he graduated from the University at Buffalo in 1981. Broadcasting & Cable Magazine is the preeminent trade magazine in the television industry.

Russell Bond appointed Paul Saccomando operations manager. Saccomando earned both a bachelor’s degree and MBA from Canisius College. In addition, he holds the following insurance designatons: chartered property & casualty underwriter, associate in underwriting, and associate in automation management insurance designations. Russell Bond & Co. is an insurance wholesaler headquartered in Buffalo and also maintains offices in Hamilton, NJ and Westfield, MA.

SKM Group, a Depew marketing communications agency, named Andrea Liseno proofreader, Mary Usen a senior production manager and Diane Warner a media director. Liseno, previously a marketing associate at Marshall Pet Products, received a bachelor’s degree from Daemen College. Usen is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton. She most recently was employed at hawkeye|MOSAIC as a billing coordinator and production manager. Warner was previously the media director at Abbey Mecca & Co.

VA Western New York Healthcare System appointed Patricia Hryzak Lind associate director for patient nursing services/nurse executive. Lind was previously the associate director for patient nursing services at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center and Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Rochester, a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Utica/Rome and a diploma in nursing from the Genesee Hospital.

Goldberg Segalla named Jonathan Schapp special counsel in its Buffalo office. He was a senior associate with Mattar, D’Agostino & Gottlieb. He graduated from Booklyn College and obtained his J.D. at the University at Buffalo School of Law.

Colligan Law appointed Matthew K. Pelkey an associate attorney, focusing on business and real estate transactions, Buffalo startups, public and private financing, community economic development, and litigation. Pelkey received his bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo and his J.D. from UB School of Law.

Goodwill Industries of Western New York named Jack Frawley a job developer for the supportive services for veteran families grant based at the Veterans One-stop Center of WNY at 1280 Main Street in Buffalo. Frawley previously worked as an operations manager for FedEX Ground and served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps.

Evans Bank appointed Eric Sonnenberger appraisal risk and environmental manager. Sonnenberger was an appraiser with Emminger, Newton, Pigeon, & Magyar. Sonnenberger graduated from Fredonia State College.

Trocaire College named Alisha J. Taggart-Powell coordinator for non-traditional occupations. Taggart-Powell most recently was senior academic adviser in the School of Nursing at the University at Buffalo. She earned her master’s degree in Social Work from the University at Buffalo.
