CATCH OF THE DAY – The Ladies Auxiliary of Madonna Council, Knights of Columbus, 755 Erie Ave., North Tonawanda, hold its first fish fry of the year from 4 to 7 p.m. today.

There’s a choice of dinners – fish for $8.95, shrimp or scallops for $9.25, and a seafood platter for $9.75 – all of which include coleslaw, bread and butter, and a choice of two sides. For a little extra, you can choose a homemade dessert. Takeouts also are available if you call 693-5470.


THINK TROPICAL – USA Dance kicks off 2014 with a Latin flavor at its dance this evening in Amherst Community Church, 77 Washington Highway, Snyder. Calvin and Fanny will give a salsa and bachata lesson from 7:30 to 8:30, and general ballroom dancing will follow until 11. Light refreshments will be served. Dress is business casual. Cost is $10, $8 for students with ID and $6 for members.


HIGH NOTES – Acclaimed flute-playing prodigy Emma Resmini, who’s 14, makes her first Buffalo appearance in the In The Light concert series at 2 p.m. Sunday in Corpus Christi Church, 199 Clark St. near the Broadway Market. The concert will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the arrival of the Pauline Order of priests, saving of the church from closure.

Emma, who grew up in a Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C., and began playing the flute at age 3, will perform with Corpus Christi’s new chamber orchestra in selections by Mozart and Haydn and a movement from a flute concerto composed for her by the church’s music director, Istvan Hernek. The concert is free and open to the public. She also will play at the church’s 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass.


NEW CREW – Variety Club Women and Variety Club Tent 7 will induct their newly elected officers and directors at their annual installation luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 11 in the Variety Banquet Center, 6114 Broadway, Lancaster.
