This week’s blast of snow is good news for those who want to visit Erie County’s parks for sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and other winter activities.

“Here in Erie County we are accustomed to getting some snow, and we take full advantage of that to provide free winter recreation and outdoor exercise at our county parks,” Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said.

“There is something for everyone to enjoy, and we look forward to residents getting outside over the holidays and throughout the winter months to enjoy the season.”

Residents can check the county website,, for daily updates before heading to the parks.

Weather permitting, the following activities are available:

Akron Falls: Sledding, ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowmobiling.

Chestnut Ridge: Sledding, ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and toboggan runs open from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. holidays and weekends.

Como Lake: Sledding, ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating.

Ellicott Creek: Sledding, ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.

Elma Meadows: Sledding, groomed cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.

Emery: Ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing; T-bar operates from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. holidays and weekends and 4 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Grover Cleveland Golf Course: Ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing.

Eighteen Mile Creek: Snowshoeing.

Boston Forest: Snowshoeing.

Sgt. Mark A. Rademacher Memorial Park/Hunters Creek: Snowshoeing.

Sprague Brook: Sledding, groomed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling.
