Norman J. Peters, longtime town justice in Collins

Norman J. Peters, a judge for the Town of Collins, died Monday at his home in Gowanda. He was 58.

Mr. Peters was born in Gowanda and was a graduate of Gowanda High School.

He was a retired 28-year employee of the Gowanda Central School District, where he had been transportation supervisor for the bus garage.

Mr. Peters served as town justice for 28 years. He won re-election in the Nov. 8 election and was scheduled to be sworn in Friday for his seventh term on the bench.

He was a member of the New York State Magistrate Association and had been a member of Post 5007, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Peters was a past member of the Gowanda Ambulance Service Board and an exempt member of the Gowanda Fire Department.

He is survived by his mother, June, and a brother, Ralph Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda.
