Technology issue at Williamsville Post Office believed resolved

Information-technology specialists for the U.S. Postal Service and Verizon believe they have fixed a telecommunications problem that bedeviled the Williamsville Post Office for much of today, knocking the facility’s self-service kiosks out of service and preventing payments with credit or debit cards, a postal service spokeswoman said this afternoon.

The problem with a data circuit that feeds into the post office at 5325 Sheridan Drive in Amherst was discovered when the facility opened for business this morning. The problem did not affect mail service at the facility and customers still could use cash for their transactions.

Service at the kiosks and credit and debit card payments at the main counter was restored and lost at various points throughout the day, but IT specialists believed as of 4:30 p.m. that they had permanently fixed the problem, said Karen Mazurkiewicz, the postal service’s regional spokeswoman.
