Karen M. Berner, co-owner of farm in Elma

Karen M. Berner, a co-owner of Berner Farms, died Saturday at her home in Elma. She was 59.

Born Karen M. Kasprzyk in Buffalo, she was a 1972 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Cheektowaga.

In 1974, she earned an associate degree from Erie Community College.

During her time at ECC, she opened a flower and gift shop in the Elma Plaza, which she operated until 1983.

A year later, she married Leon Berner, and the couple ran Berner Farms in Elma together. Mrs. Berner managed the retail portion of the garden center and greenhouses.

She was active in St. Matthias Episcopal Church in East Aurora.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Brittany and Lauren; a son, Travis; a sister, Eleanor Wojcinski; and a brother, James Kasprzyk.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 374 Main St., East Aurora.
