The Red Cross is helping nine occupants who fled a burning dwelling on Englewood Avenue early today, according to Buffalo fire office dispatchers.

The blaze broke out just before midnight at 233 Englewood in the University District, the fire office reported. One cat perished in the fire and one was rescued.

The occupants fled unharmed.

Division Chief Don McFeely listed damages at $50,000 to the house and $15,000 to its contents. A house at 237 Englewood received $1,000 exposure damage.
