Foods people ought to consider cutting back on or eliminating altogether in the new year?

Any kind of refined sugars. I don’t mean the sugars that are in fruit. I mean anything white, anything processed. Any white rice, white pasta, white bread, you should stay away from all of that. Switch to whole grains. They keep you fuller longer, they’re healthier for you. Brown rice, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal – not instant, with the sugar in it, but regular, old-fashioned oatmeal or steel cut oats.

Foods you’ve tried to avoid during the holidays?

(With a laugh) Yeah, all the cookies I’ve been baking. I’m Italian, so I do have to have the Italian cookies. My parents like to come over, it’s their tradition, so we make cookies and give little bits of those as gifts. Everything in moderation. As long as you can have a couple and be done, you should enjoy the holidays.
