Skate drop-off to benefit Martin Luther King program

Used ice skates in all sizes will be collected this weekend in the Good Neighbor Skate Drop-Off for Martin Luther King Jr. Park’s new skating basin.

A drive-by drop-off will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York headquarters, West Genesee and Seventh streets, behind City Hall. Sabres mascot Sabretooth will be on hand.

Skates can be dropped off from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Pure Hockey, 3265 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, where Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons will appear from 4 to 5 p.m. Skates also will be collected at the entrances of First Niagara Center from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, when the Sabres play the Washington Capitals at 5 p.m. For information, call 887-8951.
