Man shot three times on Niagara Street downtown

A 21-year-old Buffalo man was listed in stable condition Monday in Erie County Medical Center after he was shot three times in the thigh and back Sunday night on Niagara Street downtown.

Leewayne Rowe, who lives on Jones Street in the Clinton-Fillmore area, was shot twice in the upper thigh and once in the back by an unknown attacker who wore a black face mask and wielded a silver handgun, Central District police said. The victim also was robbed of an unspecified amount of money during the attack at about 8:40 p.m.

Following the shooting, on Niagara between West Huron and Carolina streets, Rowe tried to go to a friend’s house and was found by officers on Prospect Avenue, near Carolina Street. Police said they recovered a substantial amount of physical evidence.
