UB hosting Binghamton in matinee

The University at Buffalo and Binghamton basketball teams will meet for the first time in 33 years today at noon (Radio 1270 AM) in what will be the final appearance of 2013 for the Bulls in Alumni Arena.

It will be just the fifth time the teams are playing, with UB leading the series, 3-1.

Each has lost its last two starts. Buffalo (4-4) is coming off an 84-81 overtime loss to Manhattan on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The game featured 12 ties and 17 lead changes. Senior Javon McCrea (16 points per game), 9.1 rebounds per game) had his fourth double-double of the season.

In the final minute, Manhattan made a three-pointer, a three-point play and was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit all three shots to send the game to overtime. Freshman Shannon Evans finished with a team-high 20 points.

Before that, the Bulls lost to Canisius (69-55) after opening the month with a 78-73 win over St. Bonaventure.

Binghamton is 2-8 following a 74-46 loss at Monmouth nine days ago. The Bearcats were slowed by cold shooting in the second half (3 of 20). Before that, Binghamton played considerably better during a 74-point performance in a win at Mount St. Mary’s and a 65-point showing at No. 2 Syracuse.

In Greensboro, N.C., the St. Bonaventure women (11-4) closed their nonconference schedule with a 58-46 win against UNC-Greensboro. Hannah Little came off the bench to score a team-high 21 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Katie Healy added 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Little, Healy, and Nyla Rueter (12 points) combined for 23 of Bona’s 26 second-half points.
