Timon-St. Jude beats St. Joe’s in Fed hockey

Joe Piegay and Conor Fields had two goals each as the Bishop Timon-St. Jude hockey team beat St. Joe’s, 6-2, in the Federation on Sunday. Jake Giacobello added a goal and three assists for the Tigers (6-3).

Elsewhere, left winger Curt Majers scored with 11:17 left in the game when he bounded the puck in off the goalie from behind the net in Lew-Port’s 2-1 win over Kenmore West. Lew-Porter took an early lead when Christopher Harvey scored in the first minute of the game. West’s goal came courtesy of Stephan Hermann and tied the game, 1-1.

Mason Smith had 27 saves to earn the shutout and Brett Helmbrecht had two goals and two assists as St. Mary’s (3-2-1) blanked Amherst, 9-0.

Kenmore East and Hamburg skated to a 2-2 tie. Robert McNamara and David Christopher scored for East while Hamburg got goals from Colin Mills and Brendan Hart.

Niagara-Wheatfield (6-1, 5-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season Saturday by scoring twice in the third period in a 4-2 win over Lancaster on Sunday. Justin Durkee’s power-play goal with eight minutes left broke a 2-2 tie. Andrew Connelly added an insurance goal two minutes later for the Falcons, who dropped a 4-0 decision Saturday to Williamsville North.
