Genesee County Legislator Hancock to retire

BATAVIA – After having served on the Genesee County Legislature for 22 years and its chairwoman for the past thirteen years, Mary Pat Hancock will retire.

Hancock did not seek reelection and her district – the towns of Batavia and Stafford – will be represented by a fellow Republican who ran unopposed last month and will now head the legislature’s largest district with over 9,000 residents.

Andrew J. Young is new to political office but has served on several advisory boards, including the Genesee Gateway Local Development Corporation, which acquires property for the county’s industrial development agency.

Young heads a family business in investments and real estate. Hancock is a retired Batavia High School guidance counselor. She is the immediate past president of the NYS Association of Counties.

Among those honoring her is the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, which will award her its Wolcott J. Humphrey III leadership award.
