Bengals men win basketball thriller

Chris Thompson hit a jumper with four seconds left to give Buffalo State’s men’s basketball team a thrilling 67-65 win over Carthage in the Athlete Connections Orlando Holiday Classic in Florida.

Thompson finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Justin Mitchell (Bishop Timon-St. Jude) had 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Bengals (5-3).

Buffalo State will play North Central in Orlando on Saturday afternoon.

In women’s play, the Bengals lost a 65-60 decision to William Smith in the opener of the Daytona Beach Shootout.

Ashley Wallace (Starpoint) had 15 points to lead four Bengals who were in double figures in scoring. Staci McElroy added 14 points.

Buffalo State will play Babson in the competition in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Saturday afternoon.

Elsewhere, Daemen’s women’s team erased a 24-point lead in the final nine minutes and beat Molloy, 88-86 in overtime. It was Daemen’s first-ever win in the East Coast Conference.
