22 graduate from Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy

LEWISTON – Twenty-two new police officers graduated Friday from the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy at Niagara University, where the academy has been located since 2011.

The members of the academy’s 56th graduating class were assigned by the Niagara and Genesee County sheriff’s offices and the Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda, Youngstown and Batavia police departments. However, six of the graduates have not yet been hired by any police agency.

Michelle Y. Spahn, resident agent in charge of the Buffalo office of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, was the keynote speaker at the ceremony marking the completion of the 22-week course.

Award winners were: academic award, Nicholas Walter of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office; physical fitness, Robert Miles of Niagara Falls; Sgt. Jeff Juron Defensive Tactics Award, Alexander Ruckh, pre-employment student; Top Gun Award, James Bissell of Youngstown; Jeffrey A. Incardona Memorial Award, Erik Herbert of North Tonawanda; Joseph E. Steblein Memorial Award, Luke Udell, Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
