Prince Charles honors Adele

Singing star Adele has been honored at Buckingham Palace, being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles.

The 25-year-old with the soulful voice has become a worldwide star since her debut album topped the charts in 2008.

Last year she performed the title song in the latest James Bond film, “Skyfall.” She received an Academy Award for that effort.

Adele has recovered from throat problems that jeopardized her singing voice two years ago. She won a record six Grammy awards last year.

Schwartzman’s realization

Jason Schwartzman didn’t realize until he was cast as songwriter Richard M. Sherman in “Saving Mr. Banks” how familiar he was with his work.

“If you had asked me a week before being cast who the Sherman Brothers are, I’m embarrassed to say that I wouldn’t be able to say who they are,” Schwartzman says. “Then I realized I knew so much of their work. I knew ‘Mary Poppins.’ I knew a lot of their other songs. Musically speaking, I was very familiar with them.”

Sherman and his brother Robert were two prolific songwriters at the Disney Studios, producing scores for “The Jungle Book,” “The Aristocats,” “The Sword in the Stone” and a host of other projects. No other songwriting team has produced more motion picture scores.

It’s their work for “Mary Poppins” that’s featured in “Saving Mr. Banks.” The Sherman brothers (with B.J. Novak playing Robert) try to help convince the writer of the Mary Poppins books, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), that she should sign over the rights to Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) to make the books into a movie.

Grammy books Daft Punk

French dance duo Daft Punk, which has thus far resisted touring in support of its hit 2013 album “Random Access Memories,” has booked at least one live date in 2014. The act was among the first wave of performers unveiled for the Jan. 26 Grammy Awards.

Other stars set to appear on the telecast are Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons. The latter two, in Grammy fashion, will be performing together.

Daft Punk, who last appeared on the Grammys in 2008 with Kanye West, looks to be spared a duet partner, at least for now. The Recording Academy is billing Daft Punk’s appearance as an “exclusive” one.

Pippa Middleton to wed

Duchess Kate isn’t the only Middleton gal to get a fairytale ending.

Kate Middleton’s younger sister Pippa Middleton is engaged to her own gorgeous gent, banker Nico Jackson, with plans to walk down the aisle in 2014, Us Weekly reported Wednesday.

Pippa, 30, was the maid of honor at Kate’s massive royal wedding to Prince William in 2011.

According to Us Weekly, 36-year-old Jackson proposed earlier this month while the lovebirds were vacationing in India at the uber-swanky Oberoi Amarvilas resort.

“It was exactly how he planned it – very romantic and grand,” a source said.

The couple started dating 15 months ago.
