Cagle arrested for DWI
Country singer Chris Cagle has been arrested in Texas on a driving while intoxicated charge.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Cagle was arrested early Sunday near Greenville, 50 miles northeast of Dallas. The agency says the 45-year-old entertainer was pulled over after running a red light.
The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office says Cagle was released later Sunday on $3,000 bond. Sgt. Jeff Haines on Tuesday had no information on an attorney for Cagle.
Author to write series sequel
The Swedish publisher of the best-selling “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” trilogy said Tuesday it has hired an author to write a sequel to the series by Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004.
Norstedts said it signed a contract with David Lagercrantz, the author of “I am Zlatan,” a biography of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the captain of Sweden’s soccer team, to write a new novel about journalist Mikael Blomqvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander that is scheduled to be published in August 2015.
Larsson’s trilogy about a darker side of Sweden, including murder mysteries, sex trafficking scandals and a secret government unit, has been a huge international success, with more than 75 million books sold in 50 countries.
The head of publishing at Norstedts, Eva Gedin, said the new book will be an original work that includes nothing from the fourth novel in the series that Larsson began writing but hadn’t finished when he died at age 50.
Biden’s niece enters treatment
A lawyer for Vice President Joe Biden’s niece says she’s undergoing treatment after her arrest on charges she scuffled with New York City police.
Attorney Ira London wouldn’t specify what sort of treatment 26-year-old Caroline Biden is undergoing or where she’s pursuing it. She was excused from a court date Tuesday in her misdemeanor resisting-arrest case. London and Manhattan prosecutors say they hope to resolve the case at her next court date, Feb. 5
Biden was arrested Sept. 17, after her roommate called police about a rent dispute. A criminal complaint says Biden hit an officer in the chest and resisted being put in a holding cell.
Cyrus opens up to Walters
Miley Cyrus is no stranger to baring all, prancing around in oh-so-skimpy outfits, but in a new interview with Barbara Walters, she gets personal, opening up about former fiance Liam Hemsworth.
“I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think conquering that fear this year was actually bigger than any other transition that I had this entire year,” Cyrus said. “I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel, like, without them you can’t be yourself.”
Cyrus, 21, and “Hunger Games” hunk Hemsworth, 23, announced their split in September, just weeks after her now-infamous MTV Video Music Awards performance.
Cyrus, who spoke to Walters during a pre-taped interview airing on Wednesday night’s ABC News special “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013,” also discussed getting engaged at just 19: “I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is.”
The interview airs tonight at 9:30 on ABC.
