A firefighter suffered a back injury late today after he fell inside a vacant house on Fillmore Avenue that was engulfed in flames, reported the fire alarm office.

The fire broke out around 4:51 p.m. in a vacant house at 2015 Fillmore near Kensington Avenue. It was not immediately clear whether the floor of the structure gave way causing the firefighter to fall through it.

The firefighter, who was not identified, was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of the injury, which was not believed to be life threatening.

Damage was estimated at $50,000.

The cause remains under investigation.
