Firefighters braving icy conditions responded to a house fire on Briscoe Avenue between Walden Avenue and Doat Street shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Buffalo Fire Department dispatch office.

One firefighter from Rescue 1 suffered a back injury fighting the blaze at 83 Briscoe, which was reported at 10:03 p.m. by a woman living two blocks away from the ranch-style house.

Fire reports indicated the structure was occupied. The Red Cross was summoned to assist one adult and two teenagers.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but initial reports indicated that multiple fires had been set within the structure.

Damage was estimated at $60,000 to the building and $15,000 to its contents.

The injured firefighter was taken to Buffalo General Medical Center for treatment, dispatchers said.
