Two crack dealers plead guilty, are sent to treatment programs

LOCKPORT – Two people pleaded guilty in separate drug-dealing indictments Monday in Niagara County Court, and both were assigned to court-supervised drug treatment by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas.

Jonathan D. Smith, 19, of Northland Avenue, Buffalo, and James M. Akers, 30, of Cleveland Avenue, Niagara Falls, each admitted to third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. Both face up to nine years in prison if they wash out of the treatment program, but their charges will be reduced to misdemeanors carrying probation sentences if complete the program satisfactorily.

Smith sold crack cocaine April 15 in North Tonawanda. Akers admitted to one of four sales in an indictment that accused of selling crack in Niagara Falls on Feb. 26, April 16 and 24, and May 13.
