Six children were injured this afternoon when their school bus was struck by a truck at the intersection of Bailey and Walden avenues, reported Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell W. Whitfield Jr.

Nine people were on the bus at the time of the 4 p.m. accident, Whitfield said. Three adults refused treatment. Six children – one boy and five girls – suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene and transported to Women’s & Childrens Hospital for observation, said the fire commissioner.

“They suffered head, neck and shoulder injuries and were taken to the hospital,” Whitfield said. “One of the young ladies seemed to have been in more pain than the others,” said Whitfield. The identity of the truck driver, and the ages of the children were immediately not released.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, and traffic citations may be issued, according to Whitfield.
