Crested toads making a home in southern Puerto Rico

The newest colony of expatriate Buffalo natives is warty, green and brown,for and setting up residence on the southern coast of Puerto Rico.

Hundreds of Puerto Rican crested toads, hatched at the Buffalo Zoo, were sent to the island as tadpoles last month as part of a program to reinforce the population of endangered wild toads.

The Buffalo Zoo was one of 22 zoos to receive the North American Conservation Award in 2004 for the Puerto Rican crested toad Species Survival Program Conservation Partnership.
