A shoplifting suspect who fought with store security and Cheektowaga police has been sentenced to six months in jail for resisting arrest.

James Dickson, 47, of Buffalo, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to a charge of resisting arrest.

Accused of stealing several items from Wal-Mart at the Thruway Plaza, Dickson fought with store security as he was being placed under arrest and fled the scene, a police spokesman said .

Lt. Scott Prell was punched when he attempted to arrest Dickson, the spokesman said. Dickson broke free and then scuffled with Officer Timothy Sherer, who also arrived at the scene.
