Good Samaritan dies while trying to help lost trucker in Wyoming County

A good Samaritan died after stopping to help a lost truck driver in the Wyoming County Town of Covington during Wednesday afternoon’s snowstorm, sheriff’s deputies reported today.

Daniel Culver, 48, of Bryon, had stopped on Peoria Road at about 1:30 p.m. to help the trucker. As the driver was trying to back up her tractor-trailer, Culver suffered what may have been a medical incident and fell face first in the roadway, deputies said.

Several people called 911 centers in Wyoming and Livingston counties to report that a man was down, and bleeding, and that cardiopulmonary resuscitation was being performed, deputies said. Culver died shortly afterward.

An investigation continues.
