Hit-run accident injures mom loading children into car

A woman loading her children into a vehicle outside a Yorkshire store Tuesday afternoon was hit by a pickup truck that fled the scene, State Police in Machias reported this morning.

Melissa Snyder of Java was loading her baby and young son into her vehicle outside the Walgreens on Route 39 at about 3 p.m. when she was hit and pinned against the door of her vehicle, troopers said.

A blond-haired woman who was a passenger in the truck yelled out that they had slid on snow and would park nearby, but the truck fled the scene. The pickup, described as a teal green 1990s style with a regular cab, was driven by a man, troopers were told.

Snyder, who suffered undisclosed injuries, was taken by ambulance to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Machias barracks at 353-8800 and refer to case no. 5413835.
