Smelly carpet freshener leads to altercation, arrest

A Clarence woman was arrested after an altercation with her downstairs neighbor, State Police said Tuesday.

The source of the dispute?

The smell of her neighbor’s carpet freshener.

Chris L. Bucklaew, 49, of Main Street, was charged with second-degree trespass, a Class A misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, police said.

Bucklaew is accused of entering through the front door of her neighbor’s apartment without knocking at around 11:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.

The neighbor had placed cinnamon carpet freshener on the carpets that morning and Bucklaew was yelling about the smell coming into her apartment upstairs, police said.

Bucklaew allegedly refused to leave the apartment when asked, and is accused of initiating a brief physical altercation in which she tried to bite her neighbor, police said.

Bucklaew was issued an appearance ticket for Clarence Town Court on a later date.
