Buffalo firefighters battled a fire early Sunday in 2½-story home at 61 Townsend St. on the city’s East Side that sent one firefighter to the hospital with injuries.

Firefighters employed three hand lines and ladders to bring the fire under control. The blaze caused an estimated $35,000 of damage and the cause is under investigation.

Because the home had been hit by fire before, Third Battalion Chief Mark Hillary was concerned about the safety of the firefighters. The identity of the injured firefighter was unavailable.
