NIAGARA FALLS – Ruth R. Stone of Niagara Falls died Thursday in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston. She was 70.

The former Ruth Riordan was born in Niagara Falls and attended local schools. She earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in education from Niagara University.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert, in 1966, in St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Stone worked as a social worker for the Erie County Department of Social Services. She also worked as a teacher in the First Mendel River School System in Charleston, S.C., and later, as a substitute teacher for the Niagara Falls City School District. She also worked as a manager for NiaCAP, the Niagara Community Action Program.

In addition to her husband of 47 years, Mrs. Stone is survived by two sons, Robert A. and Dennis C.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Niagara University Alumni Chapel, 5795 Lewiston Road.
