Helen Miller Ericsson. 92, community leader

A memorial service for Helen Miller Ericsson, community leader and advocate for women, was held Saturday in Bristol Village, Clarence Center.

Mrs. Ericsson, of South Buffalo, died Nov. 23 under hospice care in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 92.

A Buffalo native, the former Helen Miller graduated from Mount Mercy Academy in 1939.

During World War II, Mrs. Ericsson worked in Norfolk, Va. She moved back to Buffalo with her husband, Gustav, in 1945.

Mrs. Ericsson volunteered for Sisters of Our Lady of Charity/Hopevale Residential center for Adolescent Girls in Hamburg. The program provided comprehensive treatment for girls ages 12 to 17 who experienced severe emotional difficulties.

A breast cancer survivor for 38 years, she also volunteered at the Breast Cancer Network of WNY.

She was active in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Hamburg, several book clubs and the Bristol Village community.

Mrs. Ericsson also was an avid reader, a conversationalist and an artist.

Her husband is deceased.

Survivors include a son, John.
