Todd Kress, the women’s volleyball coach at the University at Buffalo, has been released from his duties, director of athletics Danny White announced Tuesday.

White said a national search will begin immediately for a successor to Kress, who had a 73-81 record, 24-56 in the MAC, in five seasons as head coach of the Bulls. UB was 18-12 this past season, its best record but only the second winnng season under Kress.

“While I appreciate the level that Coach Kress and his staff have taken this volleyball program to, our goal remains winning Mid-American Conference championships and with that in mind we have decided to go in another direction,” White said. “This move will provide us with a fresh prospective while building on the strengths already developed here.

“Western New York had a deep history of volleyball success at all levels of competition, and we want UB to be at the forefround of those successes.”
