Lawrence L. Doctor Sr., city worker, grain scooper

Lawrence L. Doctor Sr., a former deputy streets commissioner for the City of Buffalo, died Wednesday in Largo, Fla. He was 70.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Doctor was a graduate of Bishop Timon High School. He began his employment with the city in the police garage as a mechanic supervisor and worked his way up to deputy commissioner of streets sanitation. He was later appointed director of the Buffalo Sewer Authority. He retired in 1999 after 39 years of service with the city.

Concurrent with his employment with the city, Mr. Doctor also worked as a scooper in the Buffalo grain mills for 31 years until he retired from that job about a decade ago.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Sharon Milligan; four sons, Larry, Tom, Sean and Michael; a brother, Don; and eight grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Teresa Catholic Church, 1974 Seneca St.
