The University at Buffalo (4-2) scored a big road win in women’s basketball Sunday afternoon while St. Bonaventure got a taste of what Canisius and Niagara are up against when they face Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
UB defeated Atlantic Coast Conference member Pittsburgh, 66-62, its third win in four road games.
Sloane Walton led the Bulls with 13 points.
The Bulls ran out to a 10-0 lead and held the Panthers (4-2) to just nine field goals in the first half. UB led, 34-25, at the half. It was 59-55 with two minutes to play when Margeaux Gupilan of the Bulls was fouled on an offensive rebound. She made both for a little breathing room.
Marist, which has won the last eight MAAC championships, was in command against St. Bonaventure (6-3) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Challenge, defeating the Bonnies, 68-51, in Springfield, Mass. Hannah Little recorded her second-career double-double for SBU with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Madeline Blais posted a career-high 25 points to power the Red Foxes (3-4), who led, 43-17, at halftime.
