LOCKPORT – One house was destroyed and a second heavily damaged in a fire that broke out at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, fire officials said.

The blaze originated in a house at 73 Elmwood Ave., which was destroyed, with the loss estimated at $80,000, authorities said. Firefighters arriving at the scene observed flames on the front porch and the west side of the home, on the first and second floors. The fire also heavily damaged the second floor and roof of 67 Elmwood. There was no damage estimate avaliable for this structure.

The cause remains under investigation.
