ITHACA — Niagara University dropped a 4-2 decision at No. 14 Cornell, extending its losing streak to three games and leaving the Purple Eagles winless in conference play.
After falling behind, 2-0, Niagara rallied to tie the game with a pair of goals in the second period by Dan Kolenda and TJ Sarcona. It looked as if the teams would enter the third period tied, but in the waning seconds Patrick McCarron snuck in his first of the season in what would eventually hold up as the game-winner. Cornell scored on an empty-netter in the third.
The loss drops Niagara to 3-9-1 overall, while Cornell improves to 7-3-1.
NU goaltender Adrian Ignagni made 23 saves. Cornell held a 27-26 advantage in shots. The Purple Eagles’ power play went 1 for 3, while Cornell was 1 for 5.
Niagara returns to the ice on Dec. 6 at Connecticut.
