Allene C. Knibloe, 94, active in church, community

March 15, 1919 – Nov. 20, 2013

Allene C. Knibloe, who was active in community, church and social organizations, died Wednesday in her Buffalo home. She was 94.

Born Allene Cushing in Newark, she moved to Buffalo and then to Eggerstville, where she grew up.

She graduated from Amherst Central High School and served in the American Red Cross overseas during World War II.

Mrs. Knibloe was active in a number of community, church and social organizations throughout her life, including Erie County League of Women Voters, Lafayette Presbyterian Church, Cornell University Alumni Association, Alpha Xi Delta sorority and the Buffalo Canoe Club.

She and her husband, Wells E., were active for many years at Lafayette Avenue Prebyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served on many service and social committees.

Mrs. Knibloe was an amateur watercolor artist, expert flower arranger and enjoyed golf, bridge, crossword puzzles and Scrabble.

She was a master judge for Flower Show Judges, Florida Council; life member of National Council of State Garden Clubs; past president and life member of Florida Federation of Garden Clubs; life member of Federated Garden Clubs of New York State; past secretary of League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara; and a member of Smallwood Garden Club and Sarasota Garden Club in Sarasota, Fla., where the couple moved in 1988 while summering in Point Abino, Ont., before returning to Buffalo in 2009.

Survivors, besides her husband, include a son, Wayne; three daughters, Gayle Nowak, Laurel Holmes and Elise Knibloe; a sister, Jeanne Wiant; and a grandson.

A memorial will be scheduled.
