Rosemary Scahill will get more time to tear down a Ridge Road eyesore.
The City Council agreed to give Scahill until June of 2014 to complete the demolition of 622 Ridge Road, the apartment building she purchased in May with the intention of razing.
Scahill, who lives on Meadow Lane, around the corner from the building, was so disgusted by the state of the property that she decided to buy it from the city for $6,000, rather than wait until the city razed it or sold it to someone else.
The Council agreed in April to sell the property to Scahill, who by city regulations had six months to fix it up or tear it down before it reverted back to the city.
City Assessor Frank E. Krakowski told Council members Scahill requested an extension because she had difficulty obtaining the deed to the property and got a late start on getting the proper permits for removing asbestos from the building.
“Everything got delayed,” said Krakowski. “She really can’t demolish now with the weather.”
The cost of the demo is a “little more expensive than she originally anticipated,” but Scahill still fully intends to tear down the building, he added.

The Global Concept Charter School also is requesting a variance for an addition at 168 Roland Avenue.
• The Our Lady of Victory Hospital Community Room at 55 Melroy Avenue, Lackawanna, will be the site of a day-long advanced gait training session for lower extremity amputees on Dec. 7.
