Survey helps hospital set local health priorities

LEWISTON – Mount St. Mary’s Hospital announced Friday that a community survey during the past year, mandated under the Affordable Health Care Act, has produced five local health priorities for the hospital to concentrate on over the next two years.

They include prevention and treatment of heart disease, stroke and COPD; screening for and treatment of cancer; the health woes of an aging population; prevention and treatment of diabetes; and the problem of obesity.

The issues will be addressed through such programs as cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, free mammograms and colorectal and prostate screens; senior care outreach programs; diabetes education; and a childhood obesity program.

The full report is available on the hospital’s website at and at the information desk in the hospital’s main lobby.
