Erich Mohr, of Amherst, a retired compositor and graphic arts technician at The Buffalo News, died Tuesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 79.
Born in Kassel, Germany, he attended printing trade school in Germany and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Mohr became a typesetter at the Buffalo Courier-Express in 1959, then was a typesetter for Hoffman Printing from 1963 to 1972, when he joined The News. He retired in 1996.
In his youth, he was an avid cross-country skier and ski jumper. After he retired, he took up golf and enjoyed computers. He also enjoyed sailing with his daughter and son-in-law on their sailboat at the Buffalo Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Doris; two daughters, Sylvia Bottini and Sandra Kondziela; a brother, Hans-Dieter; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in John E. Roberts Funeral Home, 280 Grover Cleveland Highway, Amherst.
