Gunman robs KFC Eggertsville, orders workers into freezer

A man armed with a handgun forced his way into a KFC restaurant on Bailey Avenue in Eggertsville Monday morning, robbed the store and forced two workers into a freezer, Amherst police said today.

The robbery occurred at about 8:50 a.m. at the fried chicken eatery, located at 3962 Bailey Ave.

The robber, who had what police said was a “small handgun,” ordered the employees to the ground, then took money from a cash register and safe, police said in a statement. He also took cell phones from the workers, before forcing them into a freezer. He told them to wait five minutes before coming out.

Amherst Police responded with the help of Town of Tonawanda Police’s K-9 unit. They tracked the robber’s scent through backyards in Eggertsville but lost the scent around Springville Drive, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 689-1311.
